BRS protests in erstwhile Karimnagar against CBI probe into Kaleshwaram project
BRS activists staged widespread protests across the erstwhile Karimnagar district opposing the State government’s decision to order a CBI inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project. Alleging political vendetta, the party accused the Congress of using the probe to malign BRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
Karimnagar: BRS activists on Tuesday staged protests across the erstwhile Karimnagar district against the State government’s decision to order a CBI probe into the Kaleshwaram project.
The demonstrations included rallies, dharnas and rasta rokos on both State and national highways. Protesters raised slogans against the Congress government and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Former Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tula Uma joined the dharna on the Vemulawada-Kathalapur road at Kathalapur mandal headquarters.
In Vemulawada urban mandal, party cadre organised a bike rally in Arepally and later performed palabhishekam to a portrait of BRS president K Chandrashekhar Rao with Kaleshwaram water.
In Korutla, activists staged a rasta roko at the new bus stand on National Highway 63 after taking out a rally in the town.
Similar protests were reported in Huzurabad, Dharmapuri, Dharmaram, Chigurumamidi, Saidapur and other places. Speaking at the protests, BRS activists alleged that the Congress government was deliberately highlighting the Kaleshwaram issue in the limelight through the PC Ghose Commission and the CBI probe in an attempt to tarnish the image of Chandrashekhar Rao.
They further charged that Revanth Reddy, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, was conspiring against the BRS and targeting Telangana’s identity under the guise of inquiries into the project.
