BRS questions Congress over Telangana’s stand on VB-G RAM G scheme

BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan has questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over Telangana's decision to implement the Centre's VB-G RAM G scheme despite opposition from several States, alleging that the State government has abandoned the Congress' national stand and embraced BJP policies.

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Saturday charged that while several States, including Congress-ruled Karnataka, opposed the Centre’s VB-G RAM G scheme, the Telangana government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had agreed to implement it. In an open letter to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan questioned whether the Congress had a unified national policy on the Centre’s newly introduced VB-G RAM G scheme.

Sravan said the Congress government in Karnataka had initially rejected the policy in its Cabinet and subsequently challenged it in the Supreme Court. He noted that Punjab had passed a unanimous resolution rejecting the scheme, while Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arguing that the policy would impose an additional financial burden of over Rs.5,000 crore on the State.

He further claimed that Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand had sought an immediate review of the scheme’s funding pattern. “When several States were fighting to protect constitutional federalism, the Telangana Cabinet and its sub-committee chose to surrender to the Centre’s dictates,” Sravan alleged. Claiming that Telangana was being governed on the BJP’s principles rather than the Congress’ welfare ideology, Sravan said the State was “not being governed by Rahul Gandhi’s ideology, but by Revanth Reddy’s private franchise operating on Modi’s principles.”

The BRS leader questioned why Rahul Gandhi was tolerating what he described as “indiscipline” within the party. He asked how the Telangana Chief Minister could endorse and adopt a policy that the Congress was opposing at the national level. “Why are you a silent spectator while Revanth Reddy tramples upon the Congress’ national stand and implements the BJP’s agenda? What hold does he have over your high command?” Sravan asked.

He also referred to the Congress’ “Nyay Patra” and reminded Rahul Gandhi that the party had promised in its 2023 Telangana Assembly election manifesto and 2024 Lok Sabha manifesto to increase the daily wage under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to Rs.400.
