Hyderabad: Keeping its word to protesting students, the BRS took up the issue of University of Hyderabad (UoH) land in the Parliament on Tuesday. BRS parliamentary deputy leader and Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra urged the Union government to intervene and prevent the auction of 400 acres land in Kanche Gachibowli. Incidentally, the BRS turned out to be the only party to raise the issue in the Parliament.

Raising the issue in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Ravichandra said the Congress government in Telangana is attempting to sell off the ecologically rich land, which is home to ponds, rare plant species, deer, peacocks, and a diverse range of birds. He informed that the land is not just an asset for the university but also a crucial biodiversity zone that must be preserved.

Pointing to increasing opposition to the State government’s decision, the MP noted that students, environmentalists, and citizens alike are demanding that the land remain untouched. He asserted that the responsibility to safeguard these lands rests with the Central government and called for immediate action to prevent what he described as a threat to Hyderabad’s green cover and academic integrity.
