BRS releases chargesheet against Telangana Congress government over unfulfilled poll promises

The BRS on Wednesday released a chargesheet accusing the Congress government in Telangana of failing to fulfil election promises. KTR alleged mounting debt, incomplete farm loan waiver, unemployment, pending fee reimbursement and neglect of farmers, and announced a statewide campaign.

Hyderabad: The BRS on Wednesday released a chargesheet against the Congress government, accusing it of failing on its election promises and delivering 1,000 days of distress to the people of Telangana. The party working president KT Rama Rao, along with senior leaders T Harish Rao and others, released the chargesheet.

Addressing the gathering at Telangana Bhavan here, Rama Rao said the Congress promised 420 guarantees, 13 declarations and six guarantees, but failed to fully implement its major commitments. “The Congress promised heaven within 100 days, but delivered hell for the last 1,000 days,” he said. Calling the Congress rule a criminal waste, he accused it of turning Telangana into a State marked by destruction and distortion.

He stated that the Congress government borrowed Rs 4.5 lakh crore without creating any new major assets. “Not a single brick, pond or check dam was built,” he said, accusing the Congress of merely inaugurating projects initiated during the BRS regime. He said Congress leaders blasted three checkdams and slammed the government’s inaction following damage to the Pedavaagu project, Sunkishala project retaining wall and the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel collapse.

The BRS working president reminded that the Congress government promised a Rs 50,000-crore farm loan waiver, but eventually implemented only Rs 20,000 crore. He said farmers were again facing shortages of urea and delays at procurement centres, while Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima had been weakened or stopped. Instead, he said funds were being spent on expensive programmes like football matches.

He also criticised the government over its inaction in protecting Telangana’s irrigation interests and stated that it was allowing Krishna and Godavari river water to flow downstream. He felt that the Congress was holding a grudge against Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme and punishing farmers without supplying water despite its availability. He warned that the BRS would oppose any move that harmed Telangana’s interests in Krishna and Godavari river waters.

On employment, Rama Rao said the promised two lakh jobs in the first year had not materialised and instead produced a jobless calendar. He stated that unemployed youth were being subjected to police action for demanding notifications and jobs. The BRS would raise the issue in the Assembly session beginning September 7, he asserted.

The former Minister also targeted the government over fee reimbursement, women’s assistance, welfare promises, pensions, and issues concerning students and unemployed youth, among others. He alleged that Rs 12,000 crore in fee reimbursement dues remained unpaid, while women were still waiting for the promised Rs 2,500 monthly assistance.

He accused the government of indulging in land-related irregularities, alleging that large tracts were placed on the 22-A prohibited list and that commissions and percentages had become the order of the day.

Rama Rao criticised the government over law and order, alleged attacks on protesting unemployed youth and farmers, and accused it of targeting Opposition leaders. He cited protests by government employees as an indication of growing discontent and characterised the Congress administration as “incompetence Pro Max, corruption Ultra Max and anarchy iMax.”

He ridiculed the Chief Minister’s demand for Opposition leader and BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao’s resignation, and reminded the gathering of the last time the latter resigned, when the then Congress government at the Centre was brought down to its knees and compelled to create Telangana State.

The BRS is scheduled to stage a week-long statewide campaign from September 2 to 8, including protests and distribution of “Baaki cards” (Due Cards) listing the unfulfilled promises of the Congress government.

Former Ministers and BRS deputy floor leaders T Harish Rao, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Talsani Srinivas Yadav and other senior leaders attended the programme.
