Hyderabad: BRS leaders ridiculed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for taking credit for welfare work done by BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, while doing little to address the current issues faced by Dalits and Adivasis.

In a press conference held at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, former MLA Guvvala Balaraju pointed out that during Chandrashekhar Rao’s tenure, around six lakh people received RoFR pattas and Chenchu hamlets were converted into gram panchayats.

“Even the development of Chenchu Lakshmi Temple and groundwork for new temples were all done under the BRS. Revanth Reddy is only handing over letters and taking credit,” he stated.

He said Revanth Reddy used a public meeting during the launch of Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam scheme to push a Congress agenda, suppressing tribal voices, especially the Chenchus.

“The Chenchus were not allowed to speak. The event was turned into a Congress show,” he said, adding that the Revanth Reddy government was eyeing the mineral wealth of Nallamala forests, which was safeguarded under the BRS regime.

MLA Kova Lakshmi questioned the Chief Minister’s commitment to tribal welfare. “If Revanth Reddy really cares about tribals, why has he not given the Tribal Welfare Ministry to a tribal leader?” she asked. She also criticised the Congress government for failing to fulfill promises of loan waivers, pensions, and housing. “Instead, they discontinued schemes initiated by the Chandrashekhar Rao government,” she said.

Former MLAs Rega Kantharao and Bhukya Johnson Naik said that while Chandrashekhar Rao had done justice to tribals with Gurukul schools, hospitals, and land rights, Revanth Reddy is only organising massive events to take credit for them. “Congress came to power with SC and ST votes but forgot them after forming the government,” they said.
