Hyderabad: Former Minister V Srinivas Goud alleged that the Congress government failed to address the irrigation and agricultural issues of the undivided Palamuru region. He accused the ruling Congress of carrying out illegal arrests of BRS leaders ahead of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Srinivas Goud pointed to lack of water in the Jurala project and wondered whether the Chief Minister’s wanted to see it. Stating that the previous BRS government completed 90 per cent of works of Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, he demanded the government to complete the remaining works to supply irrigation water to farmers.
He pointed out that the Chief Minister became active on Palamuru issues only after the BRS announced its agitation programme. He also sought a review of the Ramannagattu Reservoir project and demanded attention to pending issues in Kollapur, including educational institutions and support for mango farmers.
He also sought clarity on the government’s paddy procurement, alleging that farmers were facing difficulties despite a bumper harvest as the government failed to procure crop. He demanded immediate procurement of farmers’ produce and compensation for crops damaged by unseasonal rains.
Condemning the reported detention of local BRS leaders ahead of the Chief Minister’s visit, he said such actions were undemocratic and would not deter the party from raising public issues.
Former MLA Beeram Harshavardhan Reddy and BRS leader Kuruva Vijay Kumar also spoke.
