Hyderabad: The BRS on Thursday lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police seeking registration of an FIR against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his reference to a purported fake X account in the Assembly that allegedly contained objectionable posts against its party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.
A delegation led by BRS general secretary RS Praveen Kumar submitted the complaint, seeking investigation into the creation and operation of the account and action against those responsible. The party sought registration of cases under Sections 356 and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act.
Speaking to the media here, Praveen Kumar questioned how the Chief Minister came across the X account handle “SandhyaraoBRS”, among thousands of social media accounts. He sought to know why the account was deleted immediately after Revanth Reddy referred to it in the Assembly, raising suspicions about its authenticity. He also questioned the identity of the male person whose voice was heard in an X Space linked to the account.
He alleged that the account carried a woman’s name and photograph, while a man spoke in the X Space, and sought verification of its ownership and operation. “Police should investigate whose voice it was and register a case against the persons responsible,” he said.
The BRS leader also alleged that the Chief Minister had relied on an unverified social media post in the Assembly and questioned whether the account was deliberately created by the Congress to target K Chandrashekhar Rao. “The Chief Minister speaking in the Assembly based on a fake X account, is extremely unfortunate and irresponsible,” he said.
He ridiculed Revanth Reddy for not verifying the claims on social media and referring to it like an evidence in the Assembly. “Does any political party in the world has an International Secretary. Only Revanth Reddy would know where the concept of an International Secretary for a political party originated,” he said, pointing out that whether CPI, CPM, BJP, or Congress, no party globally has such a position.
