Hyderabad: With the State government gearing up to table the PC Ghose Commission report in the Assembly, BRS legislators urged the Speaker Gaddam Prasad to allow them for a detailed presentation on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme during the assembly session beginning from Saturday. A delegation comprising BRS Whip KP Vivekananda, MLA D Sudheer Reddy and others, called on the Speaker and submitted a petition in this regard.
In the representation, the BRS said it was its duty as the principal opposition to place facts before the people on issues vital to Telangana’s interests. They argued that misinformation was being spread about Kaleshwaram which is the lifeline of Telangana, despite it having eradicated drought and providing irrigation to lakhs of acres.
Further, the party stated that they should be give an opportunity to present a factual, stage-wise account of the project’s construction, technical aspects, and benefits. The BRS also said that attempts were being made by the Centre and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh to undermine Telangana’s rights over Godavari River waters in the name of Godavari-Banakacherla interlinking project.
“Given the Assembly’s earlier precedent of allowing presentations, the main opposition too should be given a fair opportunity to present facts,” the BRS delegation said.
