Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legal cell served notices on Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna for spreading alleged misinformation against the party chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. They reportedly stated that water from Kondapochamma Sagar was wrongfully diverted to Chandrashekhar Rao’s farm lands.
On Monday, BRS general secretary and legal cell in-charge Soma Bharat Kumar issued the notices, demanding that the three leaders immediately and unconditionally delete the contentious posts from their social media accounts and withdraw the allegations. The move follows legal notices already served on the management and editor of Telugu daily newspaper Velugu over a report on the same issue.
The BRS said the campaign was aimed at damaging Chandrashekhar Rao’s reputation and misleading the public about Telangana’s irrigation projects. It said unsubstantiated allegations concerning the State’s irrigation infrastructure would not be tolerated. Further, the BRS legal cell warned that failure to comply with the notices would invite further legal action, including defamation proceedings and other remedies available under law.
