Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders and activists staged protests across the State on Thursday, condemning the Congress government’s inhuman and oppressive treatment of Lagacherla farmers. Following a call given by BRS working president KT Rama Rao, the party leaders submitted petitions at the statues of Dr BR Ambedkar in all constituencies, demanding immediate withdrawal of cases and release of the jailed farmers.

The protests across Telangana saw strong participation from BRS ranks, as leaders vowed to continue their fight for farmers’ rights against the Congress government’s alleged excesses. The BRS charged the Congress government with filing illegal cases, applying third-degree methods, detaining farmers, and even handcuffing them despite one of them suffering a heart stroke. Accusing Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of suppressing farmers’ rights, the BRS leaders criticised the government’s tyranny.

The BRS leaders slammed the Congress leaders for indulging in luxury trips, while tribal farmers are denied bail and treated inhumanely. “Even farmers with health issues are handcuffed before taking them to hospitals,” they remarked. They reiterated their commitment to sustained agitation until justice is delivered to the Lagacherla tribal farmers and former MLA Patnam Narender Reddy who was arrested for supporting them.

In Hyderabad, the BRS cadre led by senior leader Dasoju Sravan demanded urgent action from the State government. He said the Revanth Reddy government is misleading the courts to delay the bail of innocent farmers. He termed the arrests undemocratic, criticising the Congress for evading a discussion in the Assembly on the issue.
