BRS stages walkout as Tesseract land allotment rocks Council

The Telangana Legislative Council witnessed uproar as BRS members staged a walkout after their demand for a discussion on alleged land allotment to Tesseract Advanced Systems, linked to CM Revanth Reddy’s brother, was rejected.

Hyderabad: The Legislative Council witnessed noisy scenes on Thursday as BRS members staged a walkout protesting after the government declined to allow a discussion on the alleged allotment of government land to Tesseract Advanced Systems, a company linked to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s brother Anumula Kondal Reddy.

The BRS MLCs moved the adjournment motion at the outset of the proceedings, demanding a discussion on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s misusing his office to benefit his family members. They alleged that land valued at around Rs 200 crore was allotted to Tesseract Advanced Systems for Rs 7 crore, benefiting the Chief Minister’s brother Kondal Reddy, who has been linked to the company. The allegations have triggered a political row between the BRS and the Congress government.

However, the Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy rejected the motion and proceeded with Question Hour, prompting the BRS members to continue their protest. The BRS MLCs raised slogans for nearly half an hour, while MLC Deshapathi Srinivas sang a song as part of the protest.

With marshals rushing to stop them from entering into the Well of the House, Leader of Opposition in the Council S Madhusudana Chary criticised the marshals’ conduct, alleging they were undermining members’ dignity. BRS members also alleged that the ruling Congress was trying to suppress their voice through suspensions and denial of speaking opportunities.

Legislative Affairs Minister D Sridhar Babu appealed to the BRS members to return to their seats and cooperate with the smooth conduct of proceedings. However, the BRS members continued their protest and walked out.

Meanwhile, MLC Shambipur Raju who was sitting next to MLC Chinthapandu Naveen (Teenmar Mallanna) and held up a paper accusing the government of wrongful land allotments, to the camera during live telecast, while Naveen was speaking in the Council. The Council staff quickly turned the camera away. The video clip went viral on social media.
