Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) student wing on Saturday launched an awareness campaign to highlight the injustice that would be meted out to Telangana by allowing the Banakacherla project proposed by neighbouring state Andhra Pradesh.

On Saturday, student leaders visited the Government Junior College in Kachiguda and colleges in Narayanaguda, distributing pamphlets to educate students about the project’s detrimental impact.

Kishore Goud, BRS student leader, criticised the Andhra Pradesh government for illegally constructing the Banakacherla project. He said it would severely harm the interests of Telangana. He praised former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s 10-year tenure, during which projects like Kaleshwaram transformed barren land into fertile fields, making Telangana a leader in grain production.

Goud accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of failing to oppose the Banakacherla project, alleging that Reddy’s loyalty to his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu is betraying Telangana’s farmers. He urged the state government to pressure the central government to halt the project, warning that failure to act would lead to large-scale protests by the BRS to protect farmers’ rights.

The campaign, part of a five-day initiative, saw participation from student leaders Rahul, Yad Kranti, Vishal, Advait, and Sampath. The BRS student wing vowed to intensify its efforts to mobilise students across Telangana as part of the campaign against the Banakacherla project.
