Khammam: With campaigning for municipal elections coming to a close on Monday, the BRS leadership is hoping to win a majority of municipal bodies in Khammam and Kothagudem districts.

There are 117 municipal wards in five municipalities in Khammam district. There are 28,830 voters in Sathupalli municipality, 25,679 in Madhira, 24,689 in Wyra, 45,256 in Edulapuram, and 18,866 in Kallur municipality. Edulapuram is the newly formed urban local body.

Former BRS MP Nama Nageswara Rao, the party district president Tata Madhusudhan, former minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, former MLAs Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, Kandala Upender Reddy and former ZP chairman L Kamal Raju have carried out extensive campaign in all the municipalities in Khammam district.

In Kothagudem, elections are being held for the newly formed Kothagudem Municipal Corporation and Aswaraopet Municipality besides Yellandu Municipality. MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra, former minister Vanama Nageswara Rao, former Yellandu MLA B Haripriya and district president Rega Kantha Rao took the responsibility of BRS electioneering.

The leaders mainly stressed on the fact that voting for the BRS contestants was like voting for the BRS chief, former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. They highlighted the growth the towns witnessed in the BRS rule and their neglected state in Congress rule.

The BRS has arrived at an understanding with CPI, CPI (M), CPI (ML) Massline and TDP in both Khammam and Kothagudem district based on the local conditions. The support from these parties was likely to benefit the BRS in elections, the party leaders claimed.
