Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) stressed that to ensure reservations for BCs in education and jobs in the State replicating the Tamil Nadu reservation model was the best possible solution for addressing the issue.

A team of senior BRS leaders visited Chennai on Thursday. They interacted with Tamil Nadu BC Welfare Minister Raja Kannappan and BC Commission Members and studied the implementation of reservations for BCs.

The Tamil Nadu BC Commission officials gave a presentation on the socio and legal measures taken up for BC reservations. Soon after the Indira Sahni case judgement, the State Government enacted a special reservation act. They also explained as to how measures were taken up to protect from legal disputes, besides putting up a fight with the union government for inclusion in the Ninth schedule of the constitution. Further, the Justice Ambashankar Commission had conducted a comprehensive house-to-house survey for BC reservations and collected all the details of the community representation in the education and employment sectors, they said.

When the BRS leaders sought details on the reservations in the legislature and local bodies, they explained that though there were no reservations, with social awareness BC, SC and STs candidates had won and represented more than 90 percent of the seats.

Opposition leader in the Legislative Council Sirikonda Madhusudana Chary, Rajya Sabha MP V Ravichandra, former Ministers V Srinivas Goud, Gangula Kamalakar, Jogu Ramanna, senior leader Dasoju Sravan and others leaders were part of the delegation.
