Hyderabad: Launching a broadside against the Congress government for the atrocities on tribal farmers in Lagacherla, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the BRS would fight till all the cases booked against the farmers were scrapped and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy tendered an unconditional apology to the farmers.

As long as the Assembly continues, the BRS would fight on behalf of the Lagacherla farmers, he said.

Speaking to the media at the Assembly media point on Monday, the BRS working president said farmers in Chief Minister’s Kodangal constituency were being assaulted and threatened.

Since the last 35 days, the Lagacherla farmers have been jailed and third degree was being used on them. When Heerya Naik, a tribal farmer, suffered a heart stroke, he was shifted to hospital in handcuffs. Even in the hospital, his handcuffs were not removed, he stressed.

Chief Minister’s brother A Tirupati Reddy was calling the shots in Kodangal and police were acting as per his orders. Tirupati Reddy was witnessing the third degree punishment on the farmers through video calls and deriving inhuman pleasure, Rama Rao said.

The Congress government did not permit a discussion on the farmers issues but was insisting on tourism policy discussion.

The other day, when BRS members sporting t-shirts with Adani images arrived at the Assembly for a debate on Adani Group’s irregularities, they were arrested. Similarly, today, our members wanted to debate on Lagacherla farmers issues but even that was not permitted, the BRS working president said.

Farmers in Lagacherla and neighbouring villages have been vociferously opposing acquisition of their farm lands. Yet the Congress government was hell bent upon acquiring their lands, he said.

In the Congress regime, two tourisms, including jail tourism and Delhi tourism were taking place rampantly, the BRS working president said sarcastically.

“Lagacherla farmers opposing land acquisition are jailed and those commenting on the Chief Minister in social media are also being jailed,” Rama Rao said adding that on the other hand, the Chief Minister and his Ministers were visiting Delhi frequently but were not getting any funds to the State.
