Hyderabad: The BRS will organise a major public meeting, “Singareni Karmika Garjana”, at Ramagundam on October 14 to raise the issues faced by Singareni Collieries workers and press for their demands. BRS working president KT Rama Rao will be the chief guest at the meeting, scheduled to be held at 5 pm.

Addressing the media after a meeting with representatives of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS) and elected representatives from Singareni coal belt areas at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, BRSLP deputy leader T Harish Rao said the key demands included payment of the workers’ full share of Singareni profits, conducting medical boards regularly to facilitate dependent appointments, holding Singareni elections immediately and clearing pending dues.

The BRS would also demand implementation of promises made to workers in the Congress election manifesto.

The BRSLP deputy leader said the Congress government had failed to declare Singareni profits ahead of Dasara, as per established practices. He reminded that workers received a 32 per cent profit share during the BRS regime, against 16 per cent in the first year of the Congress rule and 12.5 per cent in 2024-25.

He said Singareni posted profits of Rs 2,022 crore in 2022-23, Rs 4,712 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 6,394 crore in 2024-25, but profits for the current year were yet to be declared. He stated that the profit could be below Rs 1,800 crore, citing alleged administrative failures and irregularities in coal extraction.

Harish Rao alleged that coal production fell from 70 million tonnes in 2023-24 to 58 million tonnes in 2025-26 despite an increase in output per man shift from 6.39 tonnes to 7.56 tonnes. He attributed the decline to delayed mine openings, tender-related decisions and alleged irregularities. He attributed the production decline to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s alleged favouritism towards his kith and kin.

He also alleged that around Rs 50,000 crore in dues to Singareni remained unpaid by the government and GENCO, while questioning the need for additional borrowing despite funds being available with the company.

On workers’ housing, the former Minister demanded implementation of GO 76 and execution of sale deeds for the remaining beneficiaries. He pointed out that the previous BRS government had provided house pattas to around 30,000 workers. He also demanded revival of regular medical boards for dependent appointments and alleged that the Congress government had imposed an undeclared ban on such recruitment.

Warning against any move to privatise Singareni, Harish Rao said the BRS was ready for a direct agitation. He also urged Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy to facilitate allocation of new mines to Singareni and help protect the company. He appealed to workers and people from Singareni areas to attend the October 14 meeting in large numbers.
