BRS to move privilege motion against CM Revanth Reddy

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to move a breach of privilege motion against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of misleading the Assembly by citing posts from a fake social media account. Harish Rao alleged the account was operated by the Congress team and demanded an investigation, apology, and arrests.

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to move a breach of privilege motion in the Assembly against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, accusing him of misleading the House by relying on posts from a fake social media account and making allegations against the Opposition leader. The party will also lodge a police complaint seeking an inquiry into the account and action against those operating it.

Speaking to mediapersons after the party MLAs meeting here on Thursday, Harish Rao alleged that the “Sandhya Rao” social media account was being run by the Congress social media team. He said the Chief Minister cited its posts in the Assembly, presenting them as facts to mislead the House and also the people of Telangana.

He demanded an immediate investigation into the account and the arrest of those responsible. He also demanded that Revanth Reddy tender an unconditional apology to the people for misleading the Assembly on the basis of a fake account.

“We will not leave it. Our fight will definitely continue,” he said.

The proposed action comes amid a wider BRS charge that the Congress government was suppressing the Opposition voices and avoiding debate on issues concerning people. Harish Rao said the government was using diversion politics to shift attention away from the 22A prohibited land issue, problems faced by employees, farmers’ grievances, unemployment and students’ concerns.

The BRSLP deputy leader said there had been no proper discussion on a public issue in the Assembly during the past three days and questions raised by the Opposition were not being answered. He contended that instead of allowing debate, its legislators were being suspended.

“The suppression of the Opposition amounts to suppressing the voice of the people and their grievances. Without allowing us to speak in the Assembly by suspending us, the government is admitting its failures,” he remarked.

Harish Rao stated that farmers were staging agitations over the shortage of urea, lack of power supply and non-waiver of loans. He pointed out that private properties of lakhs of farmers were being placed on the prohibited list under Section 22A. He said the BRS had been conducting statewide protests over the issue and was prepared to raise the matter in the Assembly.

He alleged that the future of around 30 lakh students, particularly SC, ST and BC students, was at stake due to pending payments of fee reimbursement. He said students were losing higher education and employment opportunities because they were unable to obtain certificates.

Harish Rao stated that cases were being filed against BRS leaders to divert attention from the alleged attack on the party legislators during the Assembly proceedings. He questioned the deployment of male personnel around women legislators and female police personnel near male legislators.

“Our women legislators were not even allowed to speak in the House, to explain their ordeal and humiliation as the police pulled their sarees and hair,” he remarked. He said the BRS would examine the alleged cases and irregularities if it returned to power.

He said the BRS would continue its fight for public issues in the Assembly and among the people.
