Adilabad: Former minister Jogu Ramanna said that BRS working president KT Rama Rao would attend a meeting titled Raithu Garjana Sabha to organized by the party on the ground of DIET College in Adilabad on November 1, demanding the government to declare Adilabad as drought-hit region. He addressed media persons here on Saturday.
Ramanna said that the farmers were reeling under a financial crisis triggered by the El Nino pattern. He alleged that the government was neglecting the agrarian sector even as BRS was staging protests at regular intervals. He regretted that the farmers were forced to die by suicide as they were distressed by poor yield caused by crop failure.
The former minister wanted the government to declare Adilabad as drought-affected district and to announce immediate relief measures to support the farmers hit by adverse weather conditions.
He advised it to draw inspiration from the neighboring Maharashtra government in supporting the drought-hit farmers. He recalled that Maharashtra offered Rs 5,000 to each farmer.
