BRS to take Assembly battle to public, Rights Commissions

BRS, after suspension of all its MLAs from the Assembly, has decided to escalate its protest by approaching NHRC and NCW over alleged mistreatment of women legislators, staging a mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan, and protesting land allotment to a company linked to CM Revanth Reddy’s brother.

Hyderabad: The BRS has decided to take its Assembly battle directly to the people after all its MLAs were suspended from the House. The party decided to escalate the humiliation and attack on its women MLAs to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and National Commission for Women (NCW).

The party decided to take up more than 20 subjects which the BRS planned to raise in the Assembly, including the Congress government’s alleged failures in 1,000 days, the Six Guarantees, more than 420 election promises and 13 declarations.

During a breakfast meeting held at working president KT Rama Rao’s residence on Thursday, BRS MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders discussed the next course of action following the three-day Assembly developments and suspension of the party legislators.

The party also decided to conduct a mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan on Friday to highlight discrimination against the BRS in the Legislature and the issues that were not allowed to be raised in the House.

The BRS decided to approach the National Human Rights Commission and National Commission for Women, over the ill-treatment of its women MLAs during the Assembly protest. The women legislators are likely to head to New Delhi this week. It also decided to issue a privilege notice against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for misleading the House using a fake post on social media. Party leaders are also considering taking some issues to national-level commissions.

Immediately after the meeting, Rama Rao and BRS MLAs left for the Tukkuguda–Raviryal area to inspect government land allotted to Tesseract Advanced Systems, a company linked to Revanth Reddy’s brother Kondal Reddy. Staging a protest, the BRS alleged that land worth around Rs 200 crore was allotted to the company for Rs 7 crore and questioned the basis of the allotment.
