Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday said athletes from Telangana would receive full support from the party to compete at the international level. He also stressed the need for a strong sports policy in the State.
He distributed prizes to the winners of the 8th edition of the ‘KCR Cricket Cup’ at his residence in Nandinagar. He handed over cash prizes and trophies to the winning 51st Division team and runner-up 49th Division team. Awards were also given in the department category.
The tournament was held in Warangal West to mark the birthday of BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. In its eighth year, the event saw participation from local teams and institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao said the BRS would give priority to sports if it returns to power. He emphasised the need to improve infrastructure and create opportunities for athletes to reach global standards. He also announced plans to organise cricket tournaments across the State next year under the party’s banner.
Former MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar said the tournament aimed to encourage young talent and support underprivileged players in the region.
