Hyderabad: Women leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi on Friday staged a protest near the 125 feet statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Hyderabad demanding the immediate arrest of Bandi Sai Bageerath in the POCSO case. They also demanded Union Minister Bandi Sanjay to resign.
The protest was organised under the leadership of former whip Gongidi Sunitha and former BRS women’s wing president Tula Uma. Several women activists and party workers participated in the demonstration, raising slogans against the State government and police over the handling of the case.
The agitators alleged that the Congress government failed to act against the accused despite a POCSO case being registered nearly a week ago. They questioned whether different standards of justice were being applied to common citizens and the son of a Union Minister.
They demanded that Bandi Sanjay cooperate with the investigation and resign from his post to ensure a fair inquiry. They also warned that the BRS would intensify its agitation if justice was not delivered to the victim’s family.
Police detained several protesters during the demonstration and shifted them to different police stations.
