BRS worker in Khammam attempts suicide, blames Congress leaders and police
BRS leader Banoth Ravi, alias Army Ravi, attempted suicide in Khammam alleging harassment by Congress leaders and police. In a selfie video, he accused Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s followers and police officials of plotting to kill him and filing false cases.
Khammam: The BRS Tirumalayapalem mandal party vice president and social media wing president, Banoth Ravi alias Army Ravi, attempted suicide alleging harassment by Congress party leaders and the police.
Ravi reportedly consumed pesticide near the Khammam police commissionerate office on Monday. He was rushed to the Government General Hospital for treatment. A resident of Suddavagu thanda in Tirumalayapalem mandal, Ravi served in the Indian Army for nine years.
Before the incident, Ravi recorded a selfie video accusing Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy’s relative Tumburu Dayakar Reddy, ACP (Rural) Tirupati Reddy, Tirumalayapalem SI Kuchipudi Jagadish, Congress leaders Ramasayam Naresh Reddy and Eeru of plotting to kill him by hiring a supari gang led by Polepongu Upender, Ramisetty Ramesh and others.
He alleged that after a failed attempt on his life, the accused filed several false cases against him at Khammam two-town and Maripeda Bunglow police stations. Ravi said he consumed pesticide as he could not bear the harassment by Congress leaders and the police.
He further stated that followers of Srinivas Reddy targeted him because he questioned their illegal activities and the Congress government’s failure to fulfil election promises on social media. He claimed Dayakar Reddy was angry with him for lodging a complaint with the Khammam Collector after hoisting the national flag at the Palair MLA’s camp office recently.
Ravi said he had call recordings and messages sent by the accused to his mobile phone. He appealed to BRS working president KT Rama Rao, former Palair MLAs Kandala Upender Reddy and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, MLC Tata Madhusudhan and BRS city president P Nagaraju to take action against those named if he dies.
He also urged DGP B Shivadhar Reddy to punish SI Jagadish for allegedly trying to kill him. Ravi said he had donated blood 56 times and received the Governor’s Award, adding that he was not a coward but was unable to endure harassment by the Minister’s followers.
