Hanamkonda: A BSc graduate turned to theft to repay debts incurred through online betting. The accused, identified as Sende Arun Kumar of Wankidi in Asifabad district, was arrested by the KU Campus police.
Inspector of Police S Ravi Kumar told the media on Saturday that Arun Kumar completed his BSc (BZC) from a local degree college in 2022 and stayed home for a year. In 2024, he moved to Hanamkonda to prepare for competitive exams but became addicted to online betting. After falling into heavy debt, he began breaking into houses in Gopalpur and Bheemaram areas of the city to steal valuables. During interrogation, he confessed to committing around 10 offences. Police recovered 40 grams of gold, 50 grams of silver ornaments, and Rs 56,400 in cash, all worth about Rs 6 lakh.
Inspector Ravi Kumar advised the public to inform neighbours or local police when leaving their homes locked and to install CCTV cameras to help prevent thefts.
He also appreciated KU Campus SIs P Srikanth and K Navis Kumar, along with staff members Ahmed Pasha, Raja Shekhar, Jitender, and CCS Warangal personnel T Madhu and B Chandu, for their efforts in cracking the case, which they treated as a challenge due to the series of thefts.
