Burglars break into ATM in Hyderabad, flee with cash
According to reports, the burglars used gas cutters to open the cash dispensing machine before making away with the cash inside. The incident happened past midnight at the State Bank of India ATM centre in Vanasthalipuram.
Hyderabad: Unidentified persons managed to pry open a cash dispensing machine with a gas cutter in an ATM Kiosk of the State Bank of India and decamped with Rs 8 lakh in the wee hours of Monday in Vanasthalipuram. The part of cutting open the machine and taking the cash was allegedly done by one man, while his accomplices are suspected to have been waiting outside in a car. Police said the man stole the hard disc which had visuals from the CCTV camera inside the kiosk, thus leaving the police with no clue on what exactly happened inside the kiosk.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 2 am and the entire exercise appeared to have been completed within 30 minutes. Police suspect a gang was involved in the crime. According to visuals available from CCTV cameras installed on the roadside near the kiosk, police said the man, who had covered his face with a handkerchief, had rolled down the shutter after entering into the kiosk. After completing the task, he came and got into in a car with the stolen cash in a bag.
“It is not clear how many persons were around when the burglary took place. We suspect only one person went into the ATM centre along with the gas cutter and completed the job,” said K Murali Mohan, Inspector (Vanasthalipuram), adding that the absence of a security guard helped the offenders.
Locals noticed the cash chest broken and alerted the police on Monday. Special teams from different wings of the Rachakonda Police are on the job to crack the case.
