Hyderabad: Burglars struck the Brilliant Institute of Engineering and Technology and allegedly made away with nearly Rs 1 crore in cash from the college office in Abdullapurmet.
As per available information, the burglars broke open the office door and several lockers where cash belonging to three institutions under the Brilliant Group was kept. The incident is believed to have taken place on Thursday night after staff had left for the day.
It is learnt that the college is owned by Congress MLA Kasireddy Narayana Reddy.
The college staff who came on Friday found the office burgled and alerted the college authorities and the local police.
Abdullapurmet police suspect it to be a pre-planned move, with the burglars also stealing the DVR containing footage from nearly 200 CCTV cameras, ensuring that no video evidence was left behind.
Police suspect the burglary was carried out by individuals familiar with the college’s internal operations, as they appeared to know the exact location of the cash and the CCTV network on the college premises.
Based on the complaint from the college management, a case was registered. Police have begun questioning college staff, while forensic teams examined the scene and collected samples.
