Business shutdown in Goshamahal as protests erupt against OGH construction project
The Goshamahal Parirakshana Samithi, leading the protests, emphasized that establishing a tertiary hospital of OGH’s scale would significantly affect local trade. "Our business will suffer, traffic congestion will increase, and there will be a substantial environmental impact," the Samithi members stated.
Hyderabad: All business establishments in and around Goshamahal were shut-down on Friday protesting against the construction of Osmania General Hospital (OGH) at Goshamahal. The entire neighborhood under Goshamahal constituency came to a standstill and wore a deserted look on Friday, as traders and families decided to lodge their opposition to the OGH project by shutting down the locality.
Goshamahal Parirakshana Samithi, which is spearheading the protests, made it clear that a tertiary hospital the size of OGH will have a huge impact on the trade in the locality. “Our trade will be impacted, there will be heavy traffic disruptions and there will be heavy environmental impact,” the Samithi members said.
Anticipating trouble in the form of protests by local traders and families during Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s foundation stone laying ceremony of OGH new building at Goshamahal, a large number of police personnel were deployed in the region. According to reports, president of Goshamahal Parirakshana Samithi, Purushottam is under house arrest.
