Hyderabad: Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills, on Thursday announced successful completion of over 2,000 stapedotomy surgeries, which involve restoring hearing in patients affected by otosclerosis and other complex causes of conductive hearing loss, according to a press release.
The surgeries were carried out under Dr N Vishnu Swaroop Reddy, Clinical Director, Head, Department of ENT, Facial Plastic and Cochlear Implant Surgeon and his team.
Otosclerosis, a frequently underdiagnosed yet treatable condition, causes progressive fixation of the stapes bone in the middle ear, leading to gradual hearing loss. It can affect individuals as young as 8–10 years to the elderly and is more prevalent in women, often worsening during pregnancy.
Dr Swaroop’s first 1,000 cases were presented at the Asia Oceania Congress of ENT Surgeons (2019) and subsequently published as a main article in the Journal of Laryngology and Otology (Cambridge, UK) in 2021.
