Hyderabad: Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills, on Wednesday announced that it has successfully completed 100 high-risk bariatric surgeries of super-obese patients, whose BMI was above 60, in the last five and a half years.
The milestone of 100 high-risk bariatric surgeries was achieved recently when Dr Venugopal Pareek, Head, General and Bariatric Surgery, Care Hospitals. Banjara Hills, conducted bariatric surgery of a 23-year-old woman, who weighed 165 kg with a BMI of 63.
Unlike conventional bariatric surgery programmes that cater to patients across different obesity categories, these 100 surgeries were performed exclusively on Grade III obesity patients classified as Super-Super Obese, where the BMI is more than 60.
Such patients often suffer from severe mobility limitations, uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, infertility, joint disorders, respiratory complications, and significantly elevated surgical risks, Dr Venugopal Pareek said.
