Hyderabad: A case has been booked against a city based businessman for sacrifice of 101 goats.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India made a complaint with the Rein Bazaar police station stating that the act amounts to cruelty against animals.

The businessman who runs a textiles store in the city held a program and as a thanksgiving at AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi escaping unhurt in an attack in Uttar Pradesh, sacrificed 101 goats.

A video clip where in the businessman was standing in front of herd of goats went viral on social media platforms in recent days. The program was held at Bagh-e-Jahara under Rein Bazaar police station limits.

The case was booked under various Sections of the Telangana Animals and Birds Sacrifice Act 1950 and The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

In a statement the PETA India said that, “We commend the Hyderabad police for taking steps to send the message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated. Just as human sacrifice is treated as murder, at a time when India is embarking on space mission, the archaic practice of animal sacrifice must end.”
