Bengaluru: A case has been registered against a group of persons for allegedly assaulting two suspected illegal Bangladeshi nationals in the outskirts of the city, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred in Chokkanahalli village under the limits of the Nandagudi police station on July 16, they said.

The footage of the alleged assault was later circulated on social media.

According to police, some members, acting on information that illegal Bangladeshi nationals were residing in the village, assaulted the two men.

A case of assault has been registered at the Nandagudi Police Station against those allegedly involved, and the investigation is underway, a senior police officer said, without revealing the identity of the accused.

The two men who were alleged to be illegal Bangladeshi nationals, have been taken into custody and produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) here for further proceedings to deport them, he said.

Police also said allegations have surfaced that some police personnel were in contact with the alleged illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

An inquiry is being conducted into the allegations, and departmental disciplinary action will be initiated against the personnel concerned if the charge was proved, they added.
