Hyderabad: Former Minister and BRS MLA G Jagadish Reddy said the Congress government’s decision to seek CBI probe into power purchase agreements by the previous BRS government, was meant to divert attention from public issues plaguing the State. He said the Congress government in Telangana was acting in contrast to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s views on the central agency.

Speaking to mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on Tuesday, Jagadish Reddy said the government led by Revanth Reddy was clueless on governance. He criticised the Cabinet’s decision to seek a CBI probe into power purchase agreements as futile and senseless.

“What is the rationale behind handing over the investigation to an agency that Rahul Gandhi had earlier criticised as being under the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he asked.

He also sought to know whether the government lacked confidence in the State police that it had to hand over the case to the CBI. He demanded the Telangana Congress to spell out whether it differed with Rahul Gandhi who called the CBI as a pocket agency of Prime Minister Modi.

He raised doubts over the status of inquiries conducted by the Commission headed by former judge Justice Madan B Lokur. He questioned why the Commission’s findings were not tabled in the Assembly.

The former Minister stated that the Congress government had failed to maintain uninterrupted electricity initiated by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He alleged that farmers were now receiving limited supply and facing frequent outages across the State, compared to the previous BRS regime. He also accused the government of neglecting key sectors such as irrigation and agriculture.

Jagadish Reddy said the decision to seek a CBI probe was aimed at targeting Chandrashekhar Rao and also diverting attention from failures in implementing schemes such as Rythu Bandhu and crop procurement.

He asserted that the government failed to prove its allegations against Chandrashekhar Rao on the Kaleshwaram project, and the current inquiry on power purchase agreements also would yield no different outcome.
