Warangal: Department of Pharmacy, Chaitanya Deemed to be University (CDU), is observing National Pharmacovigilance Week from September 17 to 23rd under the theme of “Pharmacovigilance: A step towards patient safety”, CDU Vice Chancellor Prof Damdodar Rao said on Saturday.
Speaking at the pogramme, the V-C said, “As per WHO, Pharmacovigilance (PV) refers to the science and activities relating to detection, assessment, understanding and prevention of adverse effects of any drug. It is a specialised scientific activity that keeps a constant watch on the drug and specific Adverse Drug Reactions which are undetected during clinical trials,” he added.
CDU Chancellor, Dr Ch V Purushotham Reddy advised all the participants to take an active part in essay writing, e-poster presentations, animation/videos, and quiz competitions.
The topics they have selected are the latest and they improve our knowledge of Pharmacovigilance towards patient safety, Medication errors and reporting of adverse drug reactions.
Dean, Pharmacy, Dr V Mallikarjun, said that the week-long awareness activities would enlighten all the participants about Pharmacovigilance, adverse drug reactions, Pharmacovigilance programs of India, Central Drug Standard Organization, under-reporting, Uppsala monitoring centre, safety and effectiveness of medicines and other pharmaceutical products. NPvW Coordinators, Dr P Shankaraiah and Dr N Chandana attended the programme.
