A host of models and actors have sported the risqué crop tops with just a safety pin hiding their modesty
After strappy, ab-baring tops and dresses, the trend among celebs seems to be baring skin with the ‘curtain reveal’. Flummoxed as to what it means? Well, it means exactly what the words seem to suggest.
Countless ‘It’ girls like Bella Hadid, Kendal Jenner, Megan Fox and Gigi Hadid have been sporting crop tops that barely cover their bits with their modesty hanging by a flimsy thread fastened at the sternum. This is a trend not for the ladies blessed with bounty. Once popular in the nineties with Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Jennifer Lopez, it’s made a comeback in 2021.
Kendal Jenner is a keen proponent of the trend wearing curtain reveal tops frequently while out and about running errands. After sporting a knitted V-neck vest, she was seen wearing a bright turquoise top and went risqué by fastening only one button out of four.
Hailey Bieber’s style is more casual and can be replicated easily with clever layering. She wore a lime green top with a bulky jacket. The skin show is there, but it’s way more subtle.
Bella Hadid also chose to bare her cleavage in a simple black top paired with blue denims and coloured sunglasses. Emily Ratajkowski showed off a taut tummy and serious underboob in a blue-coloured top fastened by a gold U-pin in the front while leaving her back completely bare. She made for quite a motivating picture since she wore the outfit just months after giving birth to her baby son.
Fashionistas who don’t wish to follow the trend to the T, but still wear the look can team such crop tops with camisoles and layer it over jumpsuits.
Pair an oversize shirt for a modest yet statement-worthy look. With such outfits, it’s always better to choose a bright-coloured top with a contrasting layer. Those with slender frames can go for figure-hugging tops and choose light, flowing fabrics instead of knits. However, if you decide to bare it, it’s better to cover up with good ol’ pasties to avoid any accidental flashing.
