Nalgonda: Union Joint Secretary of Rural Development Charanjit Singh on Sunday said women of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) should achieve financial empowerment by utilising bank loan facility.

A central team comprising Charanjit Singh and Director of Rural Development department Raghavendra Prathap Singh inspected products of the SHGs at a programme in Chityal.

Interacting with SHG women, Charanjit Singh said the Centre had increased budgetary allocation for SHGs to Rs 13,600 crores in 2021 from Rs 9,000 crores in 2020. Stating that SHGs play a crucial role in societal development, he said the Centre also increased the loan limit to Rs 20 lakhs from Rs 10 lakhs for SHGs. “The SHGs should transform into major businesses from micro businesses,” he said, and underlined the need to improve the quality of products. Utilising modern technologies, SHGs should adopt ‘e-marketing” to get the best price for their products, he suggested.

He suggested that one member of SHGs from each village should be appointed as resource person. The Centre was preparing a plan to strengthen the Community Resource Persons system. Training facility would be provided to the resource persons, he added.

District Collector Prashant Jeevan Patil, Special Commissioner of Rural Development VSNV Prasad, Additional District Collector Rahul Sharma and District Panchayat Officer Vishnu Vardhan also attended the programme.
