Centre allotted only 9 pc of outlay amount to TS for Tribal development

Hyderabad: The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) on Tuesday said the total plan outlay for Telangana State under Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) for the year 2020-21 as on March 2 was Rs 1,04,612 crore.

Of the total outlay, the Ministry allotted Rs 9,771 crore (9.34 per cent of the outlay) while the money actually spent was Rs 3,583 crore, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Renuka Singh Saruta said in Lok Sabha, replying to a question on planning for financial expenditure under Tribal Sub Scheme. For 2019-20 financial year, the plan outlay for Telangana was Rs 75,263 crore while the allotment was Rs 7,184 crore.


According to the Ministry, the Tribal Sub-Plan, which is now called STC, is a dedicated source of fund for tribal development. The STC is a multi-pronged strategy which includes support for education, health, water supply, sanitation and livelihood.

A major part of infrastructure development in tribal areas and basic amenities to tribal people in the country are carried out through various schemes and programmes. The Ministry said the percentage of ST population in Telangana State as per the 2011 census was 9.3 per cent.
