Hyderabad: The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Sainik School in Karimnagar, as Sainik School. This school was among 21 new Sainik Schools which were approved for setting up by the union government in partnership with NGOs, private schools and State governments on Saturday.

The new schools will be distinct from the existing Sainik Schools. These new schools, besides their affiliation to respective education boards, will function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society and will follow the rules and regulations in partnership mode prescribed by the Society, the MoD said in a press release.

In addition to their regular affiliated board curriculum, the schools will also impart education of academic plus curriculum to the students of Sainik school pattern, it said.

The admissions to these new Sainik Schools will be at Class VI level. At least 40 percent of intake in Class VI will be admitted by candidates who have qualified the All-India Sainik School Entrance Examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) through e-counselling.

“Up to 60 per cent intake will be from students enrolled in the same school and desirous of taking admission under this vertical of new Sainik Schools through a qualifying test, notification for which will be issued separately,” it said, adding that 17 of these schools were Brownfield running schools while four were Greenfield schools to be operational shortly.

The academic session for new Sainik Schools is likely to commence in the first week of May 2022, it added. Details pertaining to the modalities of operation of these schools are available at www.sainikschool.ncog.gov.in.
