Hyderabad: Centre for Sight, Hyderabad, is observing the ‘World Glaucoma Week’ from March 7 to 13, by hosting various awareness initiatives for ophthalmologists, medical community and public, to sensitise them on this permanently blinding eye disease.
The centre, which launched a state-of-the-art patient-friendly treatment for Glaucoma, the endoscopic laser cyclophotocoagulation surgery, is leveraging the digital platform to overcome the prevailing concerns of the pandemic and is organising webinars to create awareness and educate doctors-in-training. The general ophthalmologists are provided an opportunity to update their knowledge and skills on Glaucoma.
On World Glaucoma Day, the institute hosted a webinar with International panelists from Australia, Canada, Singapore and Bangladesh, on the topic ‘Indian dilemmas: Global Perspectives’. During the week-long celebrations, three additional webinars will also be conducted by Centre for Sight, with renowned national faculty and is a series titled ‘Crash course in Glaucoma Diagnosis and Medical Management.’
“The new laser service comes with multiple patient-friendly advantages including it being minimally invasive, eye pressure lowering is just as good as current prevailing open surgery in glaucoma; the procedure is faster and safer, complications are lower, fewer post-surgery visits and quicker recovery of vision,” said Dr Vanita Pathak-Ray, senior Glaucoma specialist, Centre for Sight.
