Hyderabad: The Women Development and Child Welfare Department is collaborating with the Montfort Social Institute, an NGO based in Uppal, to launch a ‘Transgender Entrepreneurship Centre’ in Hyderabad.
The centre will provide training in a variety of skills to transgender and hijra persons in Telangana and will assist them in launching their own independent businesses. A cohort of 25 transgender persons will be staying at the centre and participate in this one-year long program that will aim to develop them into entrepreneurs. This will be one of the first projects of its kind in the country.
A special orientation mela will be held at the Durgabai Deshmukh Stree and Sishnu Sankshema Kendram (Pranganam) at Allwyn Colony, Kukatpally on October 18, at 11 am for members of the transgender community. Divya Devarajan Special Secretary, Women and Child Welfare Department, will be attending the event.
