Hyderabad: The Central government has accorded approval for Mamnoor airport at Warangal. The Telangana government has been appealing to the Central government to accord permission for construction of an airport at Mamnoor since long.

There was a condition that construction of a new airport from 150 kms distance from Shamshabad airport would not be permitted. In November 2024, the Telangana government had approached the Airports Authority of India (AAI) stating that Hyderabad International Airport Limited (HIAL) had issued ‘No Objection Certificate’

Accordingly, instructions were issued to hand over 253 acres to AAI for development of Warangal Airport. At present, Warangal airport is a non-operational AAI airport. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has also directed the AAI to commence the works at Mamnoor.

In addition to the 696 acres, of the 253 acres land, major portion would be used for constructing runway expansion, terminal building, Air Traffic Control, Navigation Instrument Installation and other purposes.

Operations at Mamnoor airport have been closed some three decades back and since then only trainee aircraft used the facilities at the airport. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy thanked the Central government for according approval for Mamnoor Airport.
