Hyderabad: The Centre has agreed in principle to the State government’s proposal for civil aircraft operations from the Adilabad airfield.

According to a letter written to the Telangana Special Chief Secretary (Transport, Roads & Buildings) by Sanap Bajirao Ramnath, Director (IAF) with Ministry of Defence, and which was shared by the State Information and Public Relations Department, the request of the State government for development of an airport in Adilabad for civil operations was examined in consultation with the Indian Air Force.

The IAF envisages setting up of a training establishment at the location in future, he said, adding that however, the Air Force had considered the State’s request and agreed in principle for civil aircraft operations from the existing airfield in Adilabad.

The IAF, Ramnath said, had suggested that the airfield could be developed as a joint user airfield with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) acquiring contiguous land for a civil terminal, aircraft parking apron and other infrastructure. The runway would have to be resurfaced and the civil apron connected to the runway with link taxi tracks. The AAI could be approached to submit a detailed proposal for issuance of a no objection certificate by the Air Force, he added.
