Warangal Urban: CPI state secretariat member Takkallapalli Srinivasa Rao on Sunday said the Centre had increased petrol and diesel prices 15 times in a row this month and placed a heavy burden on the common man. He alleged that the oil companies were working to protect the interest of the ruling BJP.
Addressing party leaders of erstwhile Warangal district in an online meeting, Srinivas Rao said that rising petrol prices were impacting all the sectors as the cost of transportation had gone up. “Due to hike in fuel prices, the prices of essential commodities, vegetables and pulses are sky-rocketing making the lives of the common people miserable during this pandemic period,” he said.
He also found fault with the State government for not cutting its taxes on fuel despite the huge burden on the common man. “People are supposed to take nutritious food to beat Covid, but a majority of them are unable to buy the essential commodities due to sky-rocketing prices,” he said. Stating that there was no fuel price hike when elections were being held in some States, he said the Centre was dictating terms to the oil companies rather than market forces.
The CPI leaders, who participated in the meeting, also came down heavily on both the State and Central governments and demanded that the fuel price hike should be contained immediately. “As on Saturday, petrol was priced at Rs 97.53 per litre, while diesel was priced at Rs 92.45 per litre. Petrol price was increased by Rs 3.51 per litre and diesel by 4.33 a litre in the last month. On May 1, petrol and diesel prices in the State were Rs 93.83 and Rs 87.89, respectively,” the stated.
Party leaders Mekala Ravi, Panjala Ramesh, B Vijaya Sarathi, Ch Raja Reddy, K Rakj Kumar, Thota Mallikharjuna Rao, Tammera Visheswar Rao, Karre Bikshapathi and others attended this online meeting.
