Centre plans committee with Telangana’s Singareni Collieries Company Limited to reduce coal production cost
Panel, proposed by Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, will make recommendations by conducting field-level inspections; actionable recommendations to be implemented immediately
Hyderabad: The Union Coal Ministry is planning a committee comprising officials from the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and experts from the Ministry of Coal to explore ways of cost reduction.
The committee will make recommendations by conducting field-level inspections. Its actionable recommendations will be implemented immediately to bring down production expenses, according to officials.
The committee was proposed by Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy during a video conference from New Delhi with Singareni officials on Thursday as part of the Ministry’s efforts towards achieving self-reliance in the energy sector and to ensure that public sector coal companies produce quality coal in line with the rising demand.
The meeting provided key directions on reducing coal production costs, ensuring quality and addressing challenges in supply and related areas.
Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt and other senior officials, including SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Balram, attended the meeting.
The performance and welfare initiatives of both Coal India and Singareni mines were reviewed during the meeting.
