Khammam: Former leader of BRS Lok Sabha party Nama Nageswara Rao stated that sanctioning seven Navodaya Vidyalayas to Telangana by the Centre was the result of BRS struggle.

Even as the State asked for 21 Navodaya Vidyalayas, the Centre sanctioned only seven vidyalayas. After the formation of Telangana state, the former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao wrote a letter to the Prime Minister asking for new Navodaya Vidyalayas to be sanctioned in the State.

The former MP reminded that the issue of sanctioning the vidyalayas had been raised since the day he was elected to the Parliament and during the debate on several bills tabled in the House. A protest was staged at Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament in March 2022 demanding to set up Navodaya Vidyalayas in the newly formed districts.

Establishment of Navodaya Vidyalaya in Kothagudem district under Khammam parliamentary constituency would increase the literacy level of the tribal students as the district has the highest population of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The construction of the Navodaya Vidyalayas has to be completed quickly; brought into use for the benefit of the students and to boost their talents. With the new seven Navodaya Vidyalayas sanctioned, the number of such institutes in the State has reached 16, Nageswara Rao added.
