Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy demanded that the Centre should purchase entire paddy crop produced in Telangana during the Yasangi season. He questioned the Centre’s discrimination towards Telangana despite purchasing the entire crop from Punjab.
Ahead of the delegation of Ministers, Parliament members and the officials meeting union Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal, the Minister told mediapersons in Hyderabad on Tuesday that the State government has been repeatedly requesting the Centre to purchase the paddy crop, but there has been no response. He said as was warned by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, if the Centre fails to give an assurance to purchase entire paddy crop from Telangana, the TRS will come up with an action plan to take up agitations on a massive scale.
Niranjan Reddy differed with union Minister Piyush Goyal who on Tuesday alleged that the TRS government did not supply the rice it was supposed to send in the past. The union Minister criticised the Telangana government and went on to claim that though it had agreed not to supply parboiled rice in writing, the latter was now blaming the Centre over procurement without cooperating with the Centre.
“The union Minister is distorting the facts and trying to mislead the people of Telangana. Why would we stock up the custom milled rice (CMR), when the Centre is willing to lift it? We are only facilitators and it is the Centre’s responsibility to lift the stocks. It is absurd that the union Minister is blaming us,” Niranjan Reddy said. He stated that the Centre was blaming the Telangana government without arranging necessary rakes and shift the CMR.
The Ministers and MPs delegation is likely to meet Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Wednesday, seeking the Centre to procure entire paddy crop from Telangana.
