Hyderabad: Accusing the Centre of playing a double game in paddy procurement, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy on Thursday advised farmers to go for crops that fetch them good prices in Yasangi instead of paddy.
Farmers should go for the crops such as pulses and oil seeds which have high demand in the market and require less investment and fetch more revenue, he said. “After identifying the deceptive policies of the Central government, we have started alerting farmers in the State and made attempts to divert farmers towards rainfed crops.
With an aim at ensuring financial stability among farmers, the State government has introduced several schemes and supplying free power and giving Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bheema schemes apart from supplying water to farmers, he said.
After understanding anti-farmer policies of the Central government, the State government was requesting farmers in Telangana to go for alternative crops in Yasangi.
For the last six years, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has been trying to link the employment guarantee scheme with agriculture but there was no response from the Central government till now.
Since land in Telangana was suitable for cultivation of all crops, the Chief Minister accorded top priority to the irrigation sector and started giving water to meet the requirements of farmers in the State.
Under the present scenario, the farmers should go for the crops, which have demand in the market and start cultivating them. For this purpose, the State government, for the first time in the country, has set up Market Research Analysis Wing to advise farmers on what type of crops should be cultivated to get more revenue to them.
Criticising the Central government for resorting to double game on procurement issue, the Minister said the Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal for giving conflicting statements over paddy procurement from Telangana.
