Centre to auction three Coal Bed Methane gas blocks in Singareni

The Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas will soon auction three Coal Bed Methane (CBM) blocks in the Singareni region, with an estimated 19 billion cubic metres of gas reserves across six districts. SCCL has been advised to participate in the exploration process

Peddapalli: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is set to conduct an exploration auction for Coal Bed Methane (CBM) gas blocks identified in the Singareni region.

Three major blocks have been identified across six districts in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) region. These include a block covering Mancherial, Peddapalli, and Kumram Bheem districts with an estimated resource of five billion cubic metres.

Another whole block has been identified in Bhadradri Kothagudem district with approximately two billion cubic meters.

Similarly, a combined block covering Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts with around 12 billion cubic metres is also identified.

It was stated that the total estimated availability of methane gas resources in these three blocks is approximately 19 billion cubic metres, based on preliminary assessments.

Senior officials of the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas met SCCL Chairman and Managing Director Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti at Singareni Bhavan, Hyderabad, on Friday evening and advised the company to participate in the exploration auction.

Interacting with the CMD, they informed that several blocks have been identified across various States in the country for the production of Coal Bed Methane, including the Pranahita–Godavari Valley region.

Informing that the Union ministry would shortly conduct an auction to facilitate exploration activities in these blocks, they advised Singareni to make effective use of the opportunity.

The initiative was described as an integral step towards achieving self-reliance in the oil and energy sectors as part of the ‘Viksit Bharat – 2047’ vision.

Dr Buddhaprakash Jyoti told the delegation that the proposal would be examined and a decision would be taken.

Additional Director General of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Sachiv Kumar among other officials were present at the meeting.
