Hanamkonda: A chain-snatching incident recorded on a CCTV camera in Excise Colony in Hanamkonda on Friday went viral on social media, with the public demanding that the police take strict measures to curb such incidents.
The incident took place when a woman, Mamindla Navya, was drawing rangoli in front of her house at around 7 am. CCTV camera footage shows that a miscreant snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled on a bike on which his accomplice was waiting in the next street.
Navya, shocked by the incident, ran after him shouting loudly. She threw a small plastic container used to carry rangoli powder at the chain snatcher to stop him even as he jumped on the bike and fled the scene. On hearing her shouts, the neighbours rushed to the spot to catch the thieves, but to no avail.
On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and examined the CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. Following a complaint by Navya, the police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
