Hyderabad: Former chairman of BCCI junior selection committee V Chamundeswaranath on Wednesday presented KIA Sonet car to Hyderabad gymnast Budda Aruna Reddy, who returned to the city after winning two gold medals in an international tournament in Cairo, Egypt.
Tollywood actor Chiranjeevi, along with KV Rao, chairman of Kakinada seaport, presented the key to the gymnast at his residence.
The 25-year-old had won two gold medals in the Haraohs Cup international artistic tournament on Monday. Earlier, she created history by becoming the first Indian gymnast to win a medal in a World Cup with a bronze in 2018 in Melbourne, clinched the top honours in floor and the vault event.
Speaking on the occasion, Aruna said it was very encouraging. “I am happy. Chamundi sir was the one who sponsored me in 2018 for my two-month training in Uzbekistan. I struggled to find a sponsor for the training and he came in support of me. Today he presented me with this car. It is very motivating,” she said.
Aruna had suffered an ACL tear in the right leg and underwent a surgery in November 2019, recovered recently and returned to the international competition recently. The gritty gymnast, despite the career-threatening injury, worked hard with coach Manoj Rana in New Delhi before recovering fully to return to competition.
