Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to resolve the issue between students from the state and the Northeastern region at a nursing college in Kakinada city.

One student was injured in a clash that erupted between students from the state and the Northeastern region in S.K. College of Nursing on Saturday.

The Chief Minister reviewed the incident and immediately directed senior officials to resolve the issue.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Kakinada District Collector and Superintendent of Police ensured the safety and security of the students, provided the necessary accommodation and prevented any further escalation.

The issue was resolved amicably, and students from the northeastern states expressed satisfaction with the response of the authorities, the CMO said.

There was tension in the college hostel after students from the Northeast lodged a complaint with Sarpavaram police stating that one of the students’ mobile phones was stolen by someone.

A clash broke out between the two groups after the Andhra Pradesh students learnt about the police complaint. A girl was injured in the clash. She received injuries on her head and was treated in Government General Hospital in Kakinada.

Some students from Manipur have reportedly complained to Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand about the prevailing environment on the college campus and raised alarm on their safety.

The Government of Manipur took up the issue with the Andhra Pradesh government. Following directions from Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Kakinada District Collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad and SP G. Bindu Madhav deployed a team of officials to maintain peace on the campus on Saturday.

The District Collector said the clash erupted between groups of Telugu students and those from Manipur and Nagaland over theft of a phone of a Manipur student. The campus returned to normalcy after talks with the two groups.

The district authorities provided separate accommodation to 31 students from Manipur and Nagaland to guarantee them safety on campus.

The top officials are scheduled to hold talks with the students on Sunday to maintain peace and harmony on the college campus.
