Warangal Urban: Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Mandala Parashuramulu said that childless couples should not adopt children bypassing the laws related to child adoption. He held a counselling session to a childless couple of Regonda mandal centre at the Bala Raksha Bhavan in here on Friday as the couple adopted a baby girl born (eight-day-old infant) with the help of their relatives from a village near Hyderabad on October 5.

Speaking on the occasion,  Parashuramulu said that childless couples are required to apply for legal adoption on the CARA (Central Adoption Resource Authority) website set up by the Central government.

After receiving information on the illegal adoption of the child by the couple of Regonda on Thursday, a team of officials from the Childline 1098 informed the matter to District Welfare Officer (DWO) P Sridevi. Following this, Bala Raksha Bhavan Coordinator K Shirisha, DCPO B Harikrishna,  Legal cum prohibition officer SK Mohinunddin, social worker  Linga Rao,  Childline team members Ramesh and Vanitha reached Regonda  on Friday and conducted an inquiry into the incident. It was confirmed that illegal adoption had taken place. And they produced the childless couple before the Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee.

On the occasion, the couples along with their relatives were given counselling on legal and illegal adoptions and the district Child Protection officer was directed to conduct all the tests at the Government Maternity Hospital, Warangal, and shift the baby to an orphanage. Later, the chairperson said that childless couples, who were adopting the children through the illegal means, would be severely punished. The CWC chairperson also directed the Bala Raksha Bhavan Coordinator and DCPOs to collect details of childless couples in the district and make them aware of legal adoption and take steps to prevent illegal adoptions.
